Subscription Types vs. Communication Preferences vs. Solicitation Preferences

These are three distinct, separate concepts. Conflating them creates compliance risk and data problems.

Solicitation Preferences

An internal property indicating whether and how a donor can be solicited. Examples: Do Not Solicit, Email Only, Mail Only.

Communication Preferences

Donor's preferred channel (email vs. text). This is not a legal opt-in mechanism.

Subscription Types

HubSpot's legal consent mechanism for mass marketing email compliance and granular unsubscribe management.


CRITICAL

Solicitation preference exclusions are NOT automatic. You must manually add an exclusion filter to every campaign and sequence. Filter: Solicitation Preferences does not equal 'Do Not Solicit.'
